Russian Watch of the Day: Aviator Axiom

Russian Watch of the Day showcases Russian watches that have caught our attention because of their style, value, function or uniqueness.

Axiom 1375665Part of Aviator’s Axiom collection, the Aviator MiG 29 Axiom Chronograph watch is, in my opinion, the best in the line. The MiG-29 Axiom is actually pretty similar to one of the watches in the collection, the Axiom 1375665, in terms of design and features. What makes the MiG-29 special is that the actual watch comes with a model of the Mikoyan MiG-29, a Soviet jet fighter aircraft developed in the 1970s. The MiG-29 Axiom is also limited-edition and comes with a certificate that comes with the signatures of the members of the famous Russian aerobatic team, Strizhi. While the certificate and model plane are pretty great additions especially to a limited-edition watch, without these add-ons the MiG-29 Axiom is still a pretty great watch worthy of carrying the Aviator brand name. There are only 50 models of the MiG-29 in distribution compared to the 400 models of the Axiom 1375665.

Let us start with the Axiom’s design. The Axiom features two front pushers on the watch’s front surface, these two buttons are the most prominent design features of the Axiom line, as it is present in all three watches in the collection. These front pushers are very functional additions to the watch, as they make the chronograph function very easy to activate; something that is very necessary when operating an aircraft. The Axiom’s 44 mm case is made of high-grade brushed stainless steel with caoutchouc insertions and it comes with a multi-level dial in black and gunmetal grey with white markings and red details. It also comes with sapphire glass crystal on the front and back.

The Axiom uses the 3133 Russian Poljot movement with 23 ruby jewels. It has a water resistance depth rating of 3 ATM (30 meters) and comes with a black silicon strap. An additional genuine black leather strap can also be purchased, as the strap is interchangeable. The Axiom 1375665 and MiG-29 Axiom are the same models, the only physical difference is that the former has “Axiom” engraved on the crown protector whereas the latter is engraved with its special model name, “MiG-29″. If you purchase the limited edition MiG-29, you’ll also receive a 35cm x 25 cm x 23 cm, metal model of the Soviet Mikoyan Mig-29 along with the certificate.
